There is fiscal space for additional measures to support society

Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said that the aid will be given where there is a need, adding that the targeting will mainly concern the middle class and the lower income citizens.

"We will know the amount of the new aid (through the supplementary budget) at the beginning of September," Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Thursday in an interview with Open TV.

He said that the aid will be given where there is a need, adding that the targeting will mainly concern the middle class and the lower income citizens.

Staikouras also said that "we are making plans for the coming months. The state must find fiscal space to return it to the citizens. We are making  plans for the next year, for the next four years. In July and August, additional fiscal space was created."

Regarding Fuel Pass-2, he said that 131 million euros had been paid to 1.9 million beneficiaries by Wednesday evening. On the country's exit from the enhanced surveillance status on August 20, he reiterated that "we will have more flexibility in the measures while respecting and adhering to European rules."
